Extending the community work of the NikeLab Re-Creation Center c/o Virgil Abloh from 2019. The Garfield branch’s basketball court, locker and game rooms were all refurbished after 60 years, reusing elements of the original space including court flooring to make a new trophy case, tables and seating for the community center. The heart of the club features a mural by local Chicago artist, Max Sansing. The reopening featured events during All-Star Week 2020 along with the launch of “All-Star Academy,” a long-term program of on-court training and learning opportunities in sport design, science and journalism.
